Climate Catastrophe
Forget about “Climate Change”, we have a catastrophe on our hands. If a teenager like Greta can get the attention of the world by shaming our leaders, you know we have gone to far.
In a magazine I read regularly entitled Resurgence and Ecologist, a must-read article by Farhana Yamin is worth the time. She is on the front line of climate change and says “it is vital to shine a light on the lived experiences of climate and ecological breakdown, challenge neocolonialism in all it forms, and take action here in the minority world, to confront the devastation caused by unaccountable extractive industries.”
What is an extractive industry? Logging, mining, oil and gas removal…you know. In poorer countries, there are fewer resources to fight these high profit margin moguls.
Greta Thurnberg says we must stop competing with each other, cooperate and share the remaining resources of this planet. Things we learned in kindergarten. Or should have, or forgot. Who are you sharing your resources with?
Yamin addresses the inequality that exists in the world and ties it to ending domination over Nature. She is an activist with the Extinction Rebellion in Ghana, and this organization has grown to more than a million persons in 65 countries since it’s launch in the UK in October of 2018.
Consider this: 200 species go extinct every day according to their website. In March of 2019, the organization had 206 groups in 24 countries. Here’s a link https://extinctionrebellion.us/. We are waking up.
Satish Kumar, retired editor of Resurgence says “activism is a journey”. There are many ways to bring that reluctant activist to life. How do you do it? Below is a picture of the signing of a treaty that happened in South America recently. Look familiar? Who can be trusted?
